The goal of this training is to provide resources for clinicians or students interested in learning more about effective approaches to working with men and women struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, body image disturbance, and compulsive exercise. The training will include resources, handouts, and experiential activities to use with clients.
In this training you will learn:
- How to asses and accurately diagnose complex eating disorders
- Effective approaches to treatment and how to integrate them into your work
- Ways address body image disturbance in addition to eating/exercise behaviors
- Biological, psychological, physiological, social, spiritual factors in recovery
- The role of the family in the recovery process
- How to coordinate care with multidisciplinary providers
- Where therapists commonly get stuck and ways to avoid pitfalls in treatment.
- Ways to minimize risk and when to refer to higher levels of care
- Strategies for clinician self-care when working with eating disorders
