Clinical Director

Malia Sperry, PsyD.

Dr. Malia Sperry created La Luna Center to be a valuable resource for individuals struggling with disordered eating and body image concerns.  She has a longstanding commitment to the prevention and respectful treatment of eating disorders and developed La Luna Center’s Intensive Outpatient Program as a compilation of highly effective treatment components designed to be provided in a holistic, empowering, and nurturing environment. Malia has a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University/ Honolulu where much of her training and research focused on the treatment of eating disorders.  She has experience treating adolescents and adults with eating disorders and body image concerns in individual, group, and intensive outpatient settings. Malia integrates cognitive-behavioral, dynamic, experiential and humanistic therapies into her work with individuals groups, couples and families.

Therapists

Karen Drucker, PsyD., TEP

Dr. Karen Drucker is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Colorado and obtained her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology. Karen specializes in the treatment of trauma, addictions and eating disorder issues.  She is highly trained and skilled in experiential therapy and group therapy modalities and is a certified practitioner of psychodrama, sociometry and group psychotherapy.  Karen is a trainer in the Therapeutic Spiral Model, an experiential method for resolving trauma. Her extensive training and experience in experiential modalities has made her a valuable member of La Luna Center's treatment team since its inception. Karen sees clients in individual, family and couples therapy and also facilitates La Luna Center’s Experiential Therapy groups. 

Laura Wilkes, M.A.

Laura Wilkes earned her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas, and specializes in the treatment of eating disorders.  Laura received training at the Eating Disorders Institute in Minneapolis, MN before joining La Luna Center’s team in 2006.  Laura sees clients at both La Luna Center’s Boulder and Fort Collins locations. She is skilled in cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, dynamic, and narrative therapies and has extensive experience working in both individual and group therapy.   

Ellen Boeder, MA, LPC
Ellen Boeder is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She received her Master of Arts in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University.  Ellen has extensive experience providing individual, group, and family therapy in both outpatient and inpatient settings. She is highly skilled at working as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team and is flexibly trained in gestalt, body-centered, cognitive behavioral, EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and dynamic psychotherapies. Ellen also utilizes her extensive training in yoga and meditation to promote mindfulness, positive body connection and self-care practices. 

Jennifer Sleek, BS

Jennifer Sleeks is our intern from Colorado Christian University where she is completing her Masters of Arts in Counseling. She takes an integrative strengths-based approach to counseling, incorporating psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and solutions-oriented therapeutic approaches. She believes that it is important to maintain a holistic view of each person, empowering emotional, physical, mental, social and spiritual growth and well being. Jennifer co-faciliates La Luna's IOP groups and provides individual therapy on a sliding scale.

Michelle L. Fields, BA
Our intern Michelle is currently completing her Master of Arts in Contemplative Psychotherapy at Naropa University. She has a background in psychology and animal behavioral research as well as various mindfulness practices such as shamatha-vipassana meditation and kundalini yoga. Her approach to therapy is integrative and draws from contemplative, psychodynamic, and humanistic psychologies. She believes everyone possesses all they need to be healthy and whole and to experience meaningful growth in all areas of their life. Michelle provides individual therapy sessions on a sliding scale and co-facilitates IOP groups at La Luna Center.

Nutrition

Marla Konowitch, M.A. CHT
Marla Konowitch is both a certified nutritionist candidate and a body centered psychotherapist.  She earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Regis University, Denver.  She is also a Certified Hakomi Psychotherapist, focusing on the mind, body, spirit connection.  Her passion with the psychological and biological aspects of nourishment led her to the Nutrition Therapy institute where she is currently completing her certification.  Additionally, Marla has training in EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Authentic Leadership and Mediation. Marla sees individual clients for nutrition as well as facilitating La Luna Center’s DBT/ Life skills & Appetite Awareness groups.

Clinical Director

Diana Hill, PhD.

Dr. Diana Hill has extensive experience providing group, individual, family and psycho-educational interventions to diverse client populations. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from University of CO, Boulder, specializing in the treatment and prevention of eating disorders. Diana has expertise in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and mindfulness based approaches and conducts workshops and trainings in this area for graduate students and eating disorder professionals. Diana is also a certified yoga instructor from the Shambahava School of Yoga. She aims to integrate Eastern principles and evidence-based treatment in her work with eating disorders. She seeks to empower individuals through a holistic approach that draws from their wisdom and strengths.

Therapists

Kathy Korell-Rach M.A.
Kathy obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of North Dakota and is in the final stages of earning a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the same institution. She has experience with diverse clinical concerns with an emphasis on helping individuals with poor body image and unhealthy relationships with food. She has training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Approaches, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Insight-Oriented Approaches, Motivational Interviewing, and Interpersonal Therapy. Kathy takes a pragmatic approach to treatment whereby she collaboratively determines with each client what that individual requires to holistically achieve balance, emotional strength, wellness, and his or her personal treatment goals.

Pam Sica MA, LPC

Pam Sica is both a Licensed Professional Counselor and an Art Therapist. She has a Masters of Arts in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Art Therapy from Naropa University. Pam has extensive experience working with adults, adolescents and children in various treatment settings. She blends talk therapy, art therapy, skill building and mindfulness based approaches to promote personal growth. Pam is skilled at working in individual, family and group therapy and is experienced in the treatment of trauma and EMDR.

Liz Asta, M.S.

Liz Asta obtained her Master's degree from the Counseling Psychology program at Colorado State University, with a focus on diversity and women’s issues. She is currently completing her Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology at the same program and has been trained in interpersonal process therapy, feminist therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and humanistic therapy approaches. Liz has experience working with individuals of all ages who struggle with a variety of concerns including mood and body image issues.  She has training in individual, couple’s, and group therapy settings.    

Tiare McDonald

Tiare is currently pursuing her Ph.D in Counseling Psychology at Colorado State University. Tiare takes an integrative approach to therapy, incorporating existential, interpersonal, cognitive, behavioral and emotion-focused strategies in her treatment. Tiare has worked with clients facing a broad range of concerns and has specific interest in the treatment of eating disorders, body image, weight management, health and wellness. She is trained in different forms of therapy and currently provides individual therapy on a sliding scale. 

Holly Scanes, M.S.

Holly is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Colorado State University. She has an interpersonal and feminist approach to therapy and she integrates Cognitive-Behavioral, Dialectical Behavior, Developmental, Emotional, and Client Centered techniques into her work with individuals and groups.   Holly's research and clinical interests focus on eating disorders, body image, and related issues. She has experience working with individuals with a variety of concerns and currently provides individual therapy on a sliding scale.

 

 

Nutrition

Kate Merkle, MPH, RD

Kate is a Registered Dietitian with a strong background in the treatment of eating disorders and weight concerns. Kate focuses on providing a supportive environment, helping individuals find a balanced relationship with food and a lifestyle that works well for them. Kate provides nutritional support to women in the recovery process and promotes an intuitive approach to eating that is an important supplement to individual and/or group therapy. Kate received her Masters Degree in Public Health and has completed the American Dietetic Association certificate of training in adult weight management and childhood and adolescent weight management. Her work is happily balanced by dancing, journaling and laughing daily.

Consulting Psychologist

Linda Craighead, PhD.

Dr. Linda Craighead's well researched and highly effective Appetite Awareness Model is a core component of La Luna Center’s intensive outpatient program. Linda is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Colorado and received her PhD. in Clinical Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. Linda has extensive experience in research, clinical work and supervision of clinicians working in the area of eating disorder treatment.  Her sixty publications, more than half of which are dedicated to the topic of disordered eating, are a testament to her lifetime dedication to developing effective treatment options. Linda was involved in La Luna Center's conceptualization and development process. After many years on faculty at the University of Colorado Boulder, she has moved to Atlanta's Emory University where she continues her research and treatment of eating disorders. Linda continues to provide consultation and support for La Luna Center ongoing provision of effective evidenced based treatment.
